SUPER SKATER

Will vs. the World

We're casting an indie comedy pilot set in a roller rink where one very patient assistant manager survives the worst birthday party of his life. Auditions are October 10 and October 24.

The show

Will is a mid-30s yes-man who just got called in on his Saturday off. Again. His boss is useless, his car is dying, and a seven-year-old named Braylen has a Nerf blaster and six months of birthday expectations.

Will can't say no to anyone. So every time the world pushes him, his imagination pushes back, and we cut to a slick, deadpan crime-movie version of the moment where Will is finally the one in control.

Then we snap back to the rink, and he says "no problem."

The real world

Super Skater: rental skates that smell weird, a soda machine that's freaking out, and nacho cheese with a foam dart in it. Fast, loud, ensemble comedy.

The fantasy

Black suits, a single overhead light, rival houses around a chandelier-lit table. Played completely straight. Several roles get to live in both worlds.

The roles

Ages are playing ranges, not requirements. All roles are open to any background. If a part fits you, list it on the form; you can pick more than one.

Lead

In nearly every scene

Will

Male, mid-30s · Ball cap, glasses, short beard

Assistant manager at Super Skater and the most dependable person in any room, which is exactly the problem. Dry, tired, quietly funny, and allergic to conflict. In his fantasies he's a composed, black-suited operator who never flinches. We need someone who can play understated reactions in the real world and total deadpan cool in the fantasy sequences.

"There are absolutely easier ways to make a living."

01LEAD

Main cast

Recurring series regulars

Sam

Male, mid-30s · Will's boss

Carries a clipboard he has never looked at. Calls Will in on his day off, then tells him he's late. Confidently useless and totally unaware of it.

"Don't make excuses, Will. Makes you look weak."

MAINCAST

Debbie

Female, late 20s · Small, glasses, dark hair

Rink employee with a smile that has no off switch and a habit of appearing silently behind Will. Relentlessly cheerful, secretly the most competent person there, and quietly sweet on Will, who never notices.

"Cool. Then I can practice CPR."

MAINCAST

Little Doug

Male, early 20s · Lanky, all limbs

College kid who treats "working" as a state of mind. Glued to his phone, jumpy, lovable, and out the door the second he can be. Great physical comedy role.

"Dude! Are you trying to kill me?!"

MAINCAST

Darren

Male, 30s · Will's best friend

Married, kids, and very proud of his "boundaries," which mostly consist of saying "coming!" to his wife. Pushes Will to stand up for himself while being a little bit of a hypocrite about it.

"Name one." "…" "Exactly."

MAINCAST

Kimberly

Female, 30s · Darren's wife

Wrangling a pack of kids into skates while running the family. Warm, sharp, and the one who actually says what everyone's thinking about Will. Has big arcs planned later in the season.

"You have fewer boundaries than a toddler with a Sharpie."

MAINCAST

Skater Steve

Male, 70s · Rink regular

Circles the rink at a glacial pace with a plastic skate trainer, every single day, offering calm little observations. Nobody knows much about him. That's on purpose.

"Morning, Will. Beautiful day."

MAINCAST

Pilot guest roles

Big parts in this episode

Karen Carrington

Female, 40s · Birthday mom

Walks in with the confidence of someone who has already asked for the manager. Wants everything perfect. In Will's fantasy she's the head of House Carrington, drawing a pistol across a crime-family table.

"House Carrington does not lightly suffer an insult."

GUESTSTAR

Braylen

Boy, playing age about 7–10 · The birthday kid

A tiny menace in a plastic crown with a Nerf blaster and zero remorse. Fun, high-energy part for a kid who isn't afraid to be a little gremlin on camera.

"Who's Sarah?"

GUESTSTAR

The Arbiter

Male, 60s+ · Fantasy sequence

An older gentleman with a perfectly groomed gray beard who presides over the rival houses. Two guns are pointed across his table and he could not be less concerned. Short role, big presence.

"Very well. Let us discuss terms."

GUESTSTAR

The Cashier

Any gender, 20s–30s · Snack counter

Opens the pilot losing a war against shoplifting children. Exhausted, sarcastic, and resigned to fate. Lots of great one-liners.

"Of course it did."

GUESTSTAR

Featured & background

Small parts and crowd scenes

Rink employees

Teen employee, woman employee · Any age 16+

The skate-counter teen who's seen everything and the employee who knows exactly what "John called in" means. A few lines each.

FEATURED

Party kids

Kids, about 5–12 · Some with lines

The horde. Skate-counter kids demanding sizes, snack thieves, party guests. Several kids get a line or two. Being able to skate is a bonus, not a requirement.

KIDSCREW

Parents, skaters & house members

All ages · Background

Shouting parents, rink regulars, and sharply dressed members of the rival houses in the fantasy scenes. Great if you want to see how a set works.

What to bring

  • A recent photo or headshot (a clear phone picture is fine)
  • Your schedule for the shoot window
  • The scene for your role (printed or on your phone)
  • A prepared piece of your own, under two minutes
  • Comfortable shoes. Skates optional.

What to expect

You'll show us your prepared piece, then read one of the short scenes below with someone from our team reading the other parts. No need to memorize the scene. We care about timing, energy, and whether you make us laugh.

Audition scenes

These short scenes from the pilot are called sides. Pick the one with the role you want and read through it a few times before you come in. You don't need to memorize it; you'll have the page in your hand.

Also bring something of your own

Along with the side, please come ready to show us a short piece you've prepared: a monologue or a scene from a movie, show, or play you love. Keep it under two minutes. Comedy is great, but pick whatever shows off what you do best. If it's a two-person scene, bring a partner or we'll read the other part with you.

INT. SUPER SKATER ROLLER RINK - DAY

Absolute pandemonium. Kids and chaos everywhere.

SAM (O.S.)

Will!

Will closes his eyes. Of course. He turns. SAM, mid-30s, approaches carrying a clipboard he clearly hasn’t looked at.

SAM

You’re late.

Will stares at him.

WILL

You called me ten minutes ago.

SAM

Don’t make excuses, Will.

Will waits.

SAM

Makes you look weak.

Something behind Will’s eyes goes very still.

SMASH TO:

INT. SUPER SKATER - WILL’S FANTASY

The rink is dark. SAM sits tied to a chair beneath a single light. Will approaches in a BLACK SUIT, WHITE SHIRT, BLACK TIE, baseball bat in hand. He stops in front of Sam.

WILL

Who looks weak now?

SAM

Will—

Will slowly raises the bat onto his shoulder.

WILL

You called me…

Bat taps the floor.

WILL

On my day off.

Bat taps the floor again. Sam swallows.

SAM

I didn’t know there were rules.

WILL

Rules. You knew there were rules.

SAM

Will…

Bat taps.

WILL

Saturdays are protected.

SAM

By who?

WILL

Me.

INT. SUPER SKATER ROLLER RINK - DAY

Will stands amid the chaos, mop in one hand, skate in the other. He nearly runs into his best friend, DARREN, holding a pair of rental skates.

WILL

What are you doing here?

DARREN

You stood me up. So I came here. It’s Saturday.

WILL

Yes.

DARREN

Your Saturday. Correction: our Saturday.

WILL

John called in.

DARREN

And your pathetic excuse for a boss called his default.

WILL

Pretty much.

DARREN

Will.

WILL

Don’t.

DARREN

We talked about this. You have to start standing up for yourself.

WILL

And it was a wonderful talk.

KIMBERLY (O.S.)

Darren!

KIMBERLY, Darren’s wife, struggles to get their CHILDREN into their skates.

KIMBERLY

I need you!

DARREN

(to Will)

Give me a minute.

Darren takes a breath and turns to Will, composed.

DARREN

See that?

WILL

Your family?

DARREN

Boundaries.

KIMBERLY

DARREN!

DARREN

Coming! You should try ’em sometime.

WILL

I have boundaries.

DARREN

Name one.

Will opens his mouth. Nothing.

DARREN

Exactly.

Darren walks away.

KIMBERLY

Will. Dinner tomorrow? I’m making a roast.

WILL

Sounds good, Kimsie.

KIMBERLY

He’s right, you know. You have fewer boundaries than a toddler with a Sharpie.

WILL

Cute.

Kimberly shows him her arm, covered in Sharpie marks.

KIMBERLY

Fewer boundaries than a toddler.

POP! A Nerf dart hits Will directly in the chest. He looks down at it.

Side 3: “Doug.”

INT. SUPER SKATER - EMPLOYEE LOUNGE - MOMENTS LATER

LITTLE DOUG, 22, lanky and all limbs, lounges in a booth, feet up, glued to his phone. Will enters. Sees him. Stops. Slowly approaches from behind.

WILL

DOUG.

Doug LEVITATES out of the booth and screams. His phone flies into the air. He fumbles it. Catches it. Barely.

DOUG

Dude! Are you trying to kill me?!

WILL

Apparently that’s the theme today. What are you doing?

DOUG

Working.

WILL

That’s what it looked like. We’ve been open for over an hour.

DOUG

Yeah.

WILL

Everyone’s getting murdered out there. Literally.

Through the window, a kid aims at an employee and fires a Nerf dart.

DOUG

A literal bloodbath.

WILL

Look, you’re a smart kid, Doug. Too smart to work here. So act like it. Could you please just go help at the skate counter?

DOUG

Sure.

Doug looks back at his phone. Will waits. Doug keeps scrolling. It’s quiet. He looks up and sees Will waiting.

DOUG

Now?

Will nods.

DOUG

Sure.

Doug walks past him.

DOUG

You need to learn to relax, man.

INT. SUPER SKATER ROLLER RINK - MAIN FLOOR - CONTINUOUS

Will passes SKATER STEVE, 70s, slowly circling the rink with a plastic skate trainer. He moves at a glacial pace.

SKATER STEVE

Morning, Will.

WILL

Hey, Steve.

Will keeps moving. Skater Steve continues his journey.

SKATER STEVE

Beautiful day.

WILL

Is it?

Side 4: “House Carrington”

Read this if you're auditioning for: Karen, Will, The Arbiter

INT. PRIVATE CHAMBER - WILL’S FANTASY

Darkness. Old money. A circular table under a single chandelier. KAREN sits among sharply dressed MEN AND WOMEN. She represents HOUSE CARRINGTON. Across from her, WILL sits in a black suit and tie, representing HOUSE SKATER. Between them sits THE ARBITER, an older man with a perfectly groomed gray beard. This is serious business.

KAREN

An offense of this magnitude cannot be ignored.

She looks down the long table at Will.

KAREN

House Carrington does not lightly suffer an insult. Do you capitulate?

Will. Immaculate black suit. Completely composed.

WILL

House Skater has honored the arrangement.

Karen’s eyes narrow.

WILL

There was… a slight alteration.

His eyes drift toward the cake between them: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH.

WILL

But in fairness, the terms were fluid and never fully defined.

Will folds his hands.

WILL

Do you capitulate your grievance?

Karen’s jaw tightens.

KAREN

Never.

Karen pulls a PISTOL and aims at Will. Will doesn’t flinch. He draws his own. The Arbiter calmly looks from Karen’s gun… to Will’s. Not remotely concerned.

THE ARBITER

Very well. Let us discuss terms.

INT. SUPER SKATER ROLLER RINK - CONTINUOUS

KAREN

I want a refund.

Will nods understandingly, holding his tongue.

WILL

No problem. Let’s go get settled up.

Will steps behind the register and summons a service smile from somewhere deep and nearly empty.

WILL

So the package is five hundred, less your hundred-dollar deposit, so that’s four hundred even—

KAREN

Mm. Before we get to that. A few small adjustments.

From her purse, she produces an actual folded, handwritten list. Will’s smile holds. His eyes quietly die.

KAREN

The cake, obviously, we are not paying for.

WILL

(nodding along)

Obviously. Minus… sixty.

KAREN

And the food took ages. Trying to keep the children in line while you took your sweet time back there? That is borderline hostage-taking.

Side 5: “You missed some”

Read this if you're auditioning for: Will, Debbie

INT. SUPER SKATER ROLLER RINK - MAIN FLOOR - NIGHT

The party is over. Foam darts and crushed party hats cover the rink. Will sighs and starts picking up foam darts.

DEBBIE (O.S.)

You missed some.

Will jumps. DEBBIE stands beside him with a broom.

WILL

One day you’re going to give me a heart attack.

DEBBIE

Cool. Then I can practice CPR.

She starts sweeping. Will looks around. The skate counter is spotless. The register is closed. Debbie already did his closing jobs.

WILL

Deb. You didn’t have to do all this. You could’ve left with Doug.

DEBBIE

(not looking up, sweeping)

Somebody’s gotta make sure you actually get to go home tonight.

Debbie glances at him. A moment. Will, of course, is looking at the floor.

WILL

…Thanks.

DEBBIE

(the thing tucked safely away again)

Anytime, boss.

She leans the broom against the wall and grabs her bag.

DEBBIE

Counter’s done, drawer’s counted, money’s in the safe, kitchen’s off and wiped down. Just get the lights when you’re done in here.

WILL

Night, Deb.

DEBBIE

(a small, private smile he never sees)

Night, Will.

Side 6: The snack counter

Read this if you're auditioning for: Cashier, Woman Employee

INT. SUPER SKATER ROLLER RINK - SNACK COUNTER - DAY

Pizza disappears. Slushies overflow. A CHILD grabs a candy bar and runs. The CASHIER spots him.

CASHIER

Hey! You have to pay for that!

The kid disappears into the crowd. Another kid grabs a bag of chips.

CASHIER

Those too!

Gone. A GIRL grabs two sodas.

CASHIER

Seriously?!

Gone. The cashier looks toward the heavens. No help there. A Nerf dart lands in the nacho cheese. The cashier stares at it.

CASHIER

Of course it did.

A WOMAN EMPLOYEE hustles past carrying paper towels, disinfectant and a mop.

CASHIER

Hey! Where’s John?!

WOMAN EMPLOYEE

John?

CASHIER

He was supposed to be here twenty minutes ago!

She gives him an annoyed, knowing look.

WOMAN EMPLOYEE

He called in.

The cashier closes his eyes.

CASHIER

Great. That means—

WOMAN EMPLOYEE

Yep.

CASHIER

Again?

She nods.

WOMAN EMPLOYEE

Again.
